Leman Cetiner, CEO of Silverline Pictures, Inc., began in the international film distribution industry in 1984 as a Buyer for Courage Film Productions, formerly one of the largest video distributors in Germany. Six years later, she founded Unifox Film Corporation, which acquired television programs for German speaking territories.
Because of her "insider" experience and the relationships she established with the major players of the international film distribution industry as a key buyer in Europe, Ms. Cetiner decided to expand her business into worldwide sales. With businessman and entrepreneur Axel Munch, President of Silverline, Ms. Cetiner formed Silverline Pictures, Inc. in 1993 to acquire, finance, produce, and distribute commercially driven films on a worldwide basis.
Together, Ms. Cetiner and Mr. Munch utilized their relationships with the industry leaders of international distribution to fund Silverline's production slate through pre-sale agreements. And in 1994, the company began production on DESTINATION VEGAS, which was distributed in the U.S. by Concorde-New Horizons Corp., and SMOKE N' LIGHTNIN'.
Because of the return on its investment from these smaller features, Silverline's presence in the European financial community was reinforced. It allowed the company to increase the budgets of its following films.
In 1995, Silverline produced and distributed WHERE TRUTH LIES. It released theatrically in several foreign territories, and was released in the U.S. by Paramount Home Video and HBO for cable.
In 1996, Silverline produced and distributed DUSTING CLIFF SEVEN (aka LAST ASSASSINS). It was distributed in the U.S. by A-Pix Entertainment, and released by HBO and Showtime for cable.
Also in 1996, Silverline Pictures launched its European offices in Munich (Silverline Pictures Entertainment, GmbH) in conjunction with Guenter Heinlein. With its German offices, Silverline is able to use its European corporate identity to access Germany tax incentives and EU film funds, as well as meet European content quota requirements for the EU community, which also leads to higher license fees.
With established distribution pipeline Silverline continued to distribute its own productions as well as acting as a sales agent on behalf of other independent producers.
In 1998, Silverline produced and distributed THE ROAD FROM EREBUS, whic is being distributed in the U.S. by New Line Television.
In 1999, Silverline distributed THE LAST WARRIOR (aka THE LAST PATROL), which is being released in the U.S. by Artisan Entertainment.
It was also in 1999 that Robert Yap, Director of Development and Sales, joined Silverline after graduating from the University of Southern California film school.
In 2000, Silverline produced and distributed ANGELS DON'T SLEEP HERE. Lionsgate Films and Blockbuster, Inc. is releasing the film in the U.S.
On the distribution side, Silverline Pictures currently maintains its strong ties with Germany, the key to European community, as well as with the major buyers of each territory, with whom it has successfully dealt with for almost a decade. These long-standing relationships have translated into "virtual output deals." which Silverline will continue to employ.
On the production side, Silverline will continue to produce commercially-driven genre films that fit the needs of both the United States and international markets. Having secured a German tax fund to fully finance its current production slate, Silverline will produce and release in the next 18 months: THE BEAUTY LOOP, a teen sex comedy from Writer/Director John Huddles ("Higher Love"); SCAREDY CAT, a horror film from Producer Ed Cohen, whose 1978 film "The Buddy Holly Story" won an Academy Award; CROSS ROADERS, an action-thriller written and to be directed by Guy Louthan; DEAD LINE, a thriller written by Robert Yap; THE SECRET OF THE DRAGON'S PEARL, a live-action, family adventure film written by Jesse Buchanan; BREATHERS an action film written by Robert Yap.
