THE TROOPER

Hard, regular features : his eyes totaly black, although they become more and more normal. Crew-cut hair the same amber color as his skin. A powerful, sculptured body. The TROOPER is a bronze stature come to life!

In his world he is only infantry man, a private soldier ; but in ours he is the most dangerous creature alive : both hero and redeemer!

At the outset, the TROOPER is the genetic product of some monstruous war in the future, when the nuclear deterrent has been recycled in favor of the intensive development of bio-chemisry. Heavy weapons are obsolete and the footsoldier back in vogue. Paradoxically, Man has lost out anyway... Reduced to the rank of simple bearer, he is completely subordinate to the weapons he uses : weapons he is obliged to "feed" with his own bodily fluids through terminals all over his body. This is the sole reason the TROOPER has been created. Like his brothers he has been cloned, laid like an egg, trained and conditioned. He also has an acute sense of guile and strategy. There is no combat technique he is not familiar with.

He is dedicated body and soul to his platoon. It is his family. But the TROOPER is not perfect product...

Something happened during his training which revealed the secret of where he came from : the great machine-woman that spawned him ! It turned everything upside down. From then on he was abnormal, a spanner in the works. He knows how he is related to the other troopers, the others in his brood ; he and the coward he attempts to protect on the battlefield.

This is how he has discovered alternative, non-conformist feelings : pity and revolt.

The last survivor of his platoon, he is definitively reborn, unique and alone, as he passes into our world. The previously defective product becomes the Stranger, the Loner, the Knight-errant...or even, the Innocent. Depending on how ELLA, DRAGO or the Wild Kids see him. Because he never speaks, he exists primarily according to the way others see him, as an object of their desires.

For the Kids he is Peter Pan, a magical being come from afar who will transport them from their misery. In a sense that is exactly who he becomes when he dives from the top of the building at the end of the movie to return to his world.

He is Spartacus, the man who earns his dignity in the arena, the eternal combatant. And like Spartacus, and even more human. His encounter with the Kids has given him a sense of responsibility. In his confused way he understands he has the right and the powr to be something for other people. The cause he finally chooses is love, in the shape of ELLA, and returns to his world bearing revolt. His adventures have only just begun...
